Mayors File Brief in Support of Obama Deferred Action Plan

|

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, joined by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and 70 other mayors have petitioned the court to lift the injunction against the deferred action executive actions taken by President Obama.

The mayors have cited the severe economic loss to the cities in terms of lost tax revenues and lost economic stimulus if the President's executive actions continue to be blocked.

The mayors represent 43 million voters in their respective cities.

The brief emphasizes that the economic harm is immediate and substantial to the cities and their economies.

On April 17, 2015, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans is scheduled to hear the arguments of the Attorney General that the injunction should be lifted.

This hearing will not determine the legality of the deferred action program, but rather whether an injunction should be in place while the matter is being heard by a higher court.
