Profile picture of Joseph Spesia

For as long as he can remember, Joseph wanted to be a lawyer. His primary inspiration came from his Dad’s Uncle (now deceased) and Cousins who practice law in Joliet, Illinois. He remembered having Christmas at their houses, and just being so impressed by them. He knew if he got into this business, then he would have a great opportunity to become successful.

As a child, Joseph played sports nearly year round (baseball, basketball, and football). He has worked since a young age, and has held many jobs prior to going to law school; some of his favorites were working as an electrician’s apprentice, a grill/fry cook, and an estate sale organizer. In 2013, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Iowa where he majored in Ethics and Public Policy and minored in Economics and Philosophy. He immediately entered law school in Chicago, IL at The John Marshall Law School; he earned his JD in the spring of 2016. He passed the bar exam that summer, and was subsequently sworn in as a licensed attorney on November 10, 2016.

Why is Joseph here now, at MGZ? Well, he got into Immigration Law during the summer after his first year of Law School. He took a job simply because he was presented with an opportunity from a Professor, and he no longer wanted to have non-legal jobs. He quickly learned that he enjoyed the practice area. Mostly because of the people; he likes to say that his job is to make people’s dreams come true. Helping to create other people’s happiness is very rewarding, and it never gets old! He is in this for the smiles.

Joseph feels the immigration law experience he has received since July 2014 has positioned him for growth. He has worked many different case types repetitively, in both family and business immigration. He has experience interacting with USCIS, the NVC, and Consulates all over the world, and he has extensively researched many nuanced legal issues. For now, he hopes to contribute to this team as best he can. Hopefully, as time passes, he can build a reputation as a kind, useful, and diligent attorney. He also hopes to earn trust and responsibilities through reliable performance.
