Managing Attorney

Profile picture of Marife Nazario-Yordan

Attorney Marife Nazario-Yordan was born in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and grew up with her family in Puerto Rico. She has studied, worked and lived in Puerto Rico, the mainland U.S., Spain, France and Italy, and has traveled extensively, which has given her a unique ability to understand and identify with immigrants from many diverse backgrounds, nationalities and cultures. Ms. Nazario is fluent in Spanish, French and English, and proficient in conversational Portuguese and Italian. She is licensed to practice law in Florida, Pennsylvania, Missouri and Puerto Rico, and is experienced with both the common and civil law systems, having briefly practiced law in Puerto Rico and successfully passed the Notary Law exam in her home country.

Ms. Nazario has practiced law since early 2001, after obtaining an LL.M. degree from the University of London in Corporate and Commercial Law, a JD degree from Tulane Law School (with a Certificate in European Legal Studies) and a B.A. from Duke University. During her years at Tulane, Ms. Nazario served as Managing Editor of the Tulane Journal of International and Comparative Law and studied Comparative Constitutional Law under Chief Justice William Rehnquist in Siena, Italy. She studied both the common and civil law systems and is in fact experienced and licensed under both. Upon graduating from law school, Ms. Nazario clerked one summer with Soulier et Associés in Lyon, France, having previously clerked for the Chief and Presiding Judge of the Missouri Court of Appeals for the Western District.

Ms. Nazario joined Maney | Gordon | Zeller, P.A. (“MGZ”) as Managing Attorney of the Orlando office in April of 2017 and is thrilled to be a part of such a collegiate team. She brings with her over 16 years of experience in EB-5, business and general immigration law, as well as corporate and commercial law, and corporate, commercial and real estate transactions. While her expertise lies within EB-5 law, business immigration and I-9 compliance, she also has extensive experience with, and has successfully represented numerous firm clients through, waivers and family-based processes, adjustment of status, consular processing, naturalization and removal proceedings. In addition to EB-5, Ms. Nazario also specializes in complex E-1 treaty trader and E-2 treaty investor petitions, L blanket and individual L petitions, including new office cases, the representation of students, professors, scholars and researchers, and generally, all other types of business immigration petitions and I-9 training and compliance.

Prior to joining MGZ, Ms. Nazario specialized in the complex area of EB-5 immigration, having trained and practiced with one of the principal EB-5 firms in the country. She brings with her extensive experience with EB-5 capital work and has represented some of the largest and most successful USCIS-designated Regional Centers and national real estate developers. With a background spanning over eight years of experience as a corporate, securities and real estate attorney and over five years of business immigration law, Ms. Nazario is uniquely positioned to represent regional center and new commercial enterprise clients in this complex, hybrid and ever-evolving area of the law. As part of this practice, she regularly assisted clients in seeking initial USCIS Regional Center designation, preparing and filing I-924 petitions and amendments, exemplar requests and annual filings, as well as preparing I-526 templates and reviewing EB-5 offering and other project documents to ensure EB-5 compliance and eligibility. Additionally, Ms. Nazario represents individual investors through all phases of the EB-5 petition process, including the tracing and documenting of lawful source of funds and the preparation and filing of individual I-526 and I-829 petitions. She also has extensive experience representing foreign investors and entrepreneurs in most aspects of business and real estate law, corporate formation and reorganization, and business immigration.

She also led the Business Immigration practice of Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin LLP in Kansas City, Missouri, where she represented private and public employers with respect to all their business immigration and related family immigration needs, and regularly advised and trained on I-9 employer verification procedures, compliance and audits. She was also a frequent speaker in business immigration and I-9 compliance topics.

In her earlier years, Ms. Nazario worked as Assistant Vice President and Legal Counsel to Visa, Inc. and as Senior Associate in the General Business, Corporate Finance and Real Estate departments of various national and international law firms, where she represented public and private clients and individual foreign investors in the areas of corporate formation, maintenance, reorganizations and liquidations, residential and commercial real estate transactions, and the drafting, review and negotiation of a range of corporate and commercial contracts. She also has some experience in mergers and acquisitions, private placements, corporate governance and securities laws compliance, having served as Lead Associate in the closing of a $500 million stock acquisition and several smaller multi-million dollar stock and asset transactions.
